Contemporary
Contemporary dance combines many dance styles to meet the current creative moment. Starting this class, we will explore improvisation as a method to connecting us more deeply to the movement possibilities of our bodies. We will use highly specific improvisational prompts to strengthen our release technique and build our desired physical textures for the day. Through this practice, we will study the possibilities of how energy can move through space with the body as a conduit. After exploring the impulses of our own bodies, we will practice these concepts in a more finite manner through phrase work. The phrase work will be highly musically and emotionally motivated.

Jazz is available to students ages 6 and up. We begin to explore the basic jazz vocabulary and technique in combination with many other styles. Together we create soulful dances where students learn to go beyond their bodies and expand through space. At a younger age, this class is a transition between creative movement and modern jazz at the teen level.
